ASMAT CARVING


Asmat crude yet unique design of human figures made the carving coveted by art collectors around the world. Asmat people carve statues to respect the souls of their ancestors. In their dreams, Asmat people can see their ancestors and then they carve the statues to resemble the ancestors. But that’s not all. They also make use of the carvings.
